Chapter 3 Research Methodology
Research Design The research I was conducting is a qualitative research. The information to be gathered are words and not numbers. My research is about finding ways to prevent bullying in UNCA. This research is finding more about the bullying that’s happening in school. To know if there are students who are experiencing bullying or have experienced, students who are bullying other students, and their thoughts and feelings about such incidents. I would also like to know the perspective of the students about bullying, what they know about it, what do they think of it, and the relevance of being aware of it in their lives. To find more information that can help in decreasing the bullying incidents in UNCA.
Research Locale Unida Nehemiah Christian Academy is a God-centered educational institution providing quality and holistic education. Unida Nehemiah Christian Academy is a non-stock educational institution that offers pre- elementary, elementary, and secondary education. It was organized by Unida Evangelical Christian Church, located at Sta. Rosa II, Noveleta, Cavite. The school started to operate in 2002. The Board of Trustees exercises all the powers and prerogatives for the Unida Nehemiah Christian Academy. The Board of Trustees approves the policies, guidelines, rules and regulations, etc. for the administration of the school.
The Respondents The respondents of this research are the Grade 4 to 6 students of UNCA. There are a total of 114 students. They are my chosen respondents because my research is about bullying in grade school department and grade 4 to 6 students are old enough to answer and understand my research questions unlike with grade 1 to 3 students. The Guidance Councillor, Ms Roda Lee Magsino, is also one of my respondents because she is knowledgeable about this matter.
Sampling Procedure The sampling procedure I am going to use is Purposive Sampling. Purposive sampling (also known as judgment, selective or subjective sampling) is a sampling technique in which researcher relies on his or her own judgment when choosing members of population to participate in the study. I chose the students from grade 4 to 6 because among the grade school students they are older and more mature compared with the grade 1 to 3 students. My other respondent is our Guidance Counselor, Ms. Roda Lee Magsino, I chose her because as a Guidance Counselor, she meet different kinds of students every day and when there’s a problem, bullying included, she’s the one talking to them. She have encountered things like this so, I really think she would be very helpful in my research.
Instrument Development The instrument I am going to use is questionnaires. Questionnaire is a set of printed or written questions with a choice of answers, devised for the purposes of a survey or statistical study. I have more
